Haier Microwave MWM7800TB
Due to limited counter space, I needed to find a small microwave for light to moderate use. I wasn't looking for a lot of fancy features, just something to re-heat leftovers for a decent price.
I decided upon a Haier Microwave MWM7800TB because the dimensions were just about perfect and it was 800watts, a lot more powerful than many of the others I had been finding. I searched for a reputable online seller with a fair price and ordered it.
Two days later it arrived and I unpacked it. It looked nice and had lots of options like one touch cooking buttons for things like fresh vegetables, pizza, popcorn, soup, potatoes and defrost by weight or time. It had a standard digital clock, but had a wonderfully convenient 'plus 30 seconds' button.
The microwave preformed well, making pizza and very good popcorn with no burns... for two days. On the third day the touch panel shorted out. I called customer service and they wanted to charge a shipping an replacement fee for a product that lasted a whole two days. I decided to return it through the online retailer I had purchased it from.
After a deposit, I had a replacement delivered two days later and returned the old one in the same packaging. I quickly plugged in the new microwave and was going to make sure I put it through a nice burn-in period to make sure the last one was just a fluke. At least, that was the idea. As soon as I would push a number, the microwave would instantly turn on! I could not set a time. I would press a six and instantly it would turn on and count down from six minutes.
What was even more disconcerting was I opened the door to stop it and when I closed the door, it started up again on its own! I decided I had given Haier enough of a try and promptly returned the replacement microwave and ate the 15% restocking fee on the return.
While the two days of near perfect popcorn were nice, I would have to say that overall the quality of the MWM7800TB should be enough to scare even the hardiest consumer away.
