I would not recommend GE built in microwave ovens to anyone. After less than four years of owning our GE Profile Spacemaker 2.0 microwave, the key pad began to act up. It cannot be repaired for a reasonable cost; we have been told that it will cost over $300 to have the entire control panel replaced. This is more than we payed for the microwave.

Consumers should be able to count on the reliability of their kitchen appliances for several years.

The attitude by manufacturers that major appliances are now "disposable" is inexcusable. I WILL NOT be buying another GE appliance, and probably will not buy another built in microwave....Just have to decide what to do with the hole over the stove.

I have the exact same model. Same thing has just happened and even though ours was manufactured in Oct 2009, We have only owned ours for 3 years. I am now researching different manufacturers to determine what kind to buy as a replacement. It will not be another GE profile spacemaker model.

Same story here. Mine is immaculate and never abused. It's 5 years old. I bought it along with a stove, fridge, and dishwasher - all stainless steel. I didn't include the micro on the X-warranty, as the warranty already cost me the price of another appliance. All appliances have already been serviced 2 - 3 times EACH! Now the control pad on the micro just decided not to work, at all. NO Warning, no wear. Disgusting~
