Kenmore is a great brand in microwaves, but like any home appliances you could run into minor problems every now and then.
All of a sudden your whole world comes to a stop. You want to fix it quick, but you just cannot figure out where to get the information from. You go online and you just loads of information though nothing seems to be organised and in usable format. I’ve run into similar problems and what I’ve done is collated solutions from various problems in single location to help you with Kenmore Microwave Troubleshooting.
Here are some common problems with Kenmore microwaves and the simple solutions to the problems.
As soon as I pressed the start button, the microwave started and immediately stopped. The power supply is fine and the light inside the microwave turns on when I open the door. What could be the problem?
Generally is the rest of the function seems to be working fine and only the main microwave gets affected, then it could be a fuse blowout problem. Fuse is a simple unit added to the microwave to protect the circuitry from excessive currents. Even when switched off, microwave could hold up to 4000V in the capacitors. So the fuse is an important protection tool.
To solve the problem get a proper fuse that fits the Kenmore specifications. Now open the microwave cabinet and trace the power cord. Typically it will leave you to the fuse cabinet. Just replace the fuse and you are good to go.
"My Kenmore microwave display has got stuck on LOCKED. It is not accepting any commands."
This is a safety feature provided in certain Kenmore models to pervert people from accidentally pressing any button and starting the operations. Typically the locked state is enabled by pressing a combination of keys and holding them for some time. In some models if you hold the same set of keys again, it should unlock the microwave. In some others the STOP/ Cancel button does this function.
"My Kenmore microwave looks to be working fine but it does not cook or heat anything. The food remains cold, no matter how long I run the microwave."
This could possibly be a failure in the microwave magnetron. Magnetron is the circuit that generates the microwaves that cook the food. If the magnetron fails, the rest of the microwave units will function fine, but the appliance is not generating any microwaves.
The ideal solution is to test the magnetron and if found defective to replace it. People who understand the microwave circuitry and know what they are doing can try replacing it themselves. But for most people this requires a visit to the service center as replacing the magnetron is a specialist job.
"My Kenmore touchpad has stopped working and none of the keys seem to work. (For some people certain keys may work and others may not)"
This is a classic case of faulty touch pad or keypad. The generally happens when people are not careful about using sprays for cleaning the microwave surface. If you spray the cleaner directly on the touchpad the liquid might seep in and damage the touch pad.
To solve this problem, you need take it to the service station to get it replaced. The microwave is still functional and you need not get a new one, but as you would have realised it is not usable till the touch pad is rectified.
"My Kenmore Elite Microwave is displaying F9 error and I cannot use it anymore"
This is typically a problem with the power supply circuit. Most Kenmore Elite models have a high voltage inverter board. If this board get damaged or malfunctions, you get a F9 error. Sometimes the faulty magnetron too results in the same F9 error. These faults happen in many devices and there is no particular reason why they occur.
If you see an F9 error, you must take the microwave to a technician. You may have to replace the inverter board or the magnetron. However, remember that F9 error is not something very serious. A qualified technician should be able to fix it within an hour. Do not over pay to rectify this simple straight forward problem.
The turntable in my microwave turntable is not rotating at all. The rest of the microwave is working fine."
There could be two potential problems for this. The simpler one is that your turntable slipped out of its groove. When this happens it will not rotate and you may also hear some sounds. This is mainly the grooves rubbing against the slots in the turntable. So just readjust the turntable and everything will work fine.
The other possibility is that the motor itself has stopped working. In this case, the problem is with the motor. You can get the turntable motor from any authorised store and replace it yourself if you have the knowledge of repairing general home electronics. If not you can take it to a technician to have it repaired.
