Microwave Defrost

The Advantage of Using Microwave Defrost Function

As you all know defrosting involves a careful process that you need to undertake to secure the cleanliness of your food.

There are several means by which you can defrost your food; however, you need to take into consideration the implications that these procedures may bring.

Defrosting in the microwave is the best mean of doing it so let’s take a closure look why.

The advantage using Microwave Defrost

The most common way by which you defrost your food is just by placing it on a kitchen countertop.

However, this one is the most unsafe and unrecomended process since bacteria grows rapidly between 40 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit.

The bacteria may die when you cook but there are stronger strains that do not. The result is quite similar to running cold water on it.

Defrosting with the use of refrigerator is a lot safer; however, as the temperature inside levels up to the outside temperature, bacteria may multiply eventually.

As much as possible there should be no bacterial accumulation so we are always confident about the safety of what we eat.

So the best way to use in defrosting is a microwave oven. Using this method is quite advantageous since you are assured that total elimination of pathogens happen to the food as it is being defrosted.

Bacteria cannot survive in a hot environment as compared to the other methods of defrosting.

It is also the quickest way to thaw meat products by using the microwave defrost function. It thaws meat fast without cooking it.

How to Defrost Meat in the Microwave

A microwave comes up with a defrost setting in almost new models available nowadays. Given that the microwave defrost uses a low power than what is generally used in heating food, you won’t fear anymore that the meat will be cooked.

As long as it is used properly, the food will be thawed in just five minutes depending on how thick it is.

Upon using the microwaves defrost in thawing the meat, you have to take it out from its original packing.

If the packing will not be removed then the defrost will not work properly. It would lead to thawing the food unevenly.

Once the meat has been removed from its packaging, it should be placed immediately in a bowl of water.

It should cover completely the meat. After it, you can place the meat in the microwave.

Microwaves come with guides that tell you how long you should thaw a particular kind of food.

However if your microwave doesn’t have a guide you can defrost it for five minutes for every pound of meat.

Then you need to turn the meat over half way point to have an even thawing.

This in turn gives you the best process of properly defrosting without the fear of getting contaminants.
