These vents come with filters and regular maintenance of these filters is important for a clean and odor free kitchen.

There are two kinds of filters that are used in these vents. The charcoal filter is used mainly to filter out the grime and keep the odor out. The grease filter is used to filter out the grease from damaging the vents. Both these filters can be cleaned or replaced regularly for best performance.

Remove the microwave and locate the filter holder.

Recover the charcoal from the holder and examine to check if it needs cleaning and repair.
If you have continuously used the filter for 4 to 6 months, replacing it is a better alternative.
If it is less, then just use the vacuum or blower to blow away the debris from the filter.
Replace the filter just like you took it out.

To get the right procedure for removing and replacing the charcoal filter in your microwave oven, refer to the owner’s manual. It should have all the necessary information. Some models may not require you to remove the microwave and have some other convenient way of recovering the filter.

Soak the filter in soap water and clean it with lint free cloth.
You may need to repeat the steps multiple times to get a clean filter.
You can also use a good degreaser to clear this filter rather than soap. These can make short work of getting rid of the grime and give a sparkling clean filter.
Allow the filter to drain complete before replacing it.
While the filter dries, vacuum the area inside the vent and wipe clean the holder of the grease.
Replace the filer, just like you took it out.

These are some simple steps that one can take to clean the microwave oven filters. Many of these filters are dishwasher safe and can be clean with your regular dishes too.
