How to Troubleshoot a Defective Microwave Oven Magnetron

Microwave ovens have been widely used by household because it is the fastest way to cook and prepare the food.



It is very useful especially with people on the go. In the event that the microwave oven stops, there can be many reasons, and one could be a defective magnetron.

Below are some simple steps to troubleshoot and replacement magnetron instructions

Step 1.

Determine if the fuse had been blown. Retrieve the fuse by removing the outside cabinet.

A screwdriver is needed to get the fuse out. A fuse is blown if it looks black on the inside and it was burned.

Replace the fuse by purchasing a new one in the local hardware store.

Step 2.

If the magnetron is defective as described in the above tests, replace it. A defective magnetron can be one of the major reasons why the microwave oven is not working. Overheating can be the cause to damage the magnetron.

Step 3

In replacing the magnetron, consider some of these precautions: Be cautious not to touch or strike the area where the antenna is located.

Any add–on parts like the thermal fuse or the air duct must be transferred correctly.

Ensure that the RF wire mesh is totally intact and in proper location.

Consider in detail the opening where the magnetron is to be inserted.

Remove any irregularities like the burns, pits and dents. Smooth the metal rim surface using light grade sandpaper. If there are traces of poor connections of the terminals such as the discoloration of the connectors, replace the connectors.
