The microwave due to regular use and wear and tear there are times when there may be a need to repair some defective parts of the microwave.
There are many microwave oven replaceable parts that can be used to get the appliance working again. These vary from brand to brand and even between models.
Typically it is best to restrict to just using the branded replacement parts for best performance. With branded parts, you just take the part number and the microwave model number and you would get a compatible replacement part. However, most times these branded parts are quite expensive. Fortunately, there are some other microwave oven replaceable parts that can be used too. These may not be the exact fit all the time, but they are effective and inexpensive.
Some of the common parts that one can easily replace are:
Light bulb:
The microwave oven light bulb is a common part to get blown out. This is an important part as it allows one to track the progress of the food being cooked in the oven.
Fuse:
This is one safety part that is very important for the microwave to function. With a blown fuse, there is nothing much you can do with the appliance. However, the fuse is important to prevent the microwave parts from getting a source overload. These are generally designed to standard specifications. As long as one can get the replacement of similar specifications, any fuse can be safely used.
Turntables:
While branded turntables are great for the microwave, they need not be from the same brand. This is one microwave oven replacement part which you can get from practically anywhere and it should work just fine. All you need is a plate that will fit the rim properly. Without the right match, the plate will always slide outside and not rotate uniformly.
Motors and fans:
These are another set of replaceable parts that need not be branded. One must try to match the specifications of the existing motors and fans as much as possible. A weaker motor would mean it cannot turn heavier food and a slower fan could result in overheating of the magnetron. So these things need to be factored in while purchasing these replacement parts.
Here are some other microwave oven replacement parts which you can use standard off the shelf products rather than branded ones, but you need to be a bit more diligent in your selection.
High Voltage Capacitors:
These are one of the most important and riskiest parts of the microwave. One must always get the right capacitor in terms of the ratings. Always note that the microwave capacitors are rated in a very different way as compared to regular electronic capacitors and hence the two cannot be used interchangeably, even if they show the same numbers. Ensure that you do not plug in a higher rating capacitor as replacement. The capacitor can overload the circuitry and damage the microwave.
Interlock Switches:
These are the other electrical components that may need very good specifications match to replaced branded components. Besides the current ratings, the mechanical specifications must also match and these switches need to fit in securely too.
These are some of the most common replacement parts that one would fix on faulty microwave. However, this is not an exhaustive list. Many other electrical components too can be replaced easily. One just needs to ensure that understand the implications and the functions of those components to take a call on where branded products need to be used or standard off the shelf products would work.
