Problems that commonly arise with the microwave turntable like it stops spinning can be the result in the failures of the turntable motor, turntable coupling/drive and the turntable roller ring.
If these components are faulty, replace them immediately. Below are the steps on replacing the microwave turntable.
Step 1 - Identify
Identify the correct turntable for your microwave oven. All microwave turntables are definitely not the same. They can be identical in the physical look and measurement, but you can’t easily match any turntable to any microwave model by the basis of sight only.
Specific turntables are used for specific models. For instance, a turntable made for Panasonic model will not likely fit in a Kenmore model although they may look similar. The turntable on the old models may not fit the latest models of the same brand.
Step 2 - Brand and Model of your microwave
To find out the correct turntable that you need, you need to identify first the brand and the model number of your microwave. The model number can be located on the same label containing the serial number as well as the manufacturing date.
This tag can be found commonly inside the oven on either the back or the left hand wall of the unit. Sometimes, it can be located on the side of the panel frame or inside the door frame.
Step 3 - Part number
As soon as the model number had been obtained, obtain the part number with the manufacturer’s website or an online retailer. Most of these sites have turntables that are categorized according to model numbers that have the corresponding part numbers.
When you have already the part number of the needed turntable, shop around before purchasing and you will find a wide range of turntable prices. Those manufacturers and large companies have the highest prices. Be wise in choosing the online retailer on which you will purchase the microwave part.
There are some instances that it will be a wise decision to purchase a new microwave oven than to replace a damaged part. For example, if you have a 10-year old microwave oven and it will cost you a lot to buy an expensive part, it will be economical if you will buy a new microwave oven.
Step 4 - Unplug your microwave oven
If you have already the new turntable part on hand, then you are ready to replace the damaged one. Unplug the oven from the main outlet and carefully remove the damaged turntable and the ring.
Step 5 - Remove the motor housing
It is recommended to place a towel on the flat working surface and cautiously turn the oven upside down. Retaining screws must be removed from the motor housing and then lift it off.
Step 6 - Replace turntable
For consistency, mark the different positions of the wires, unscrew the turntable and replace it with the new turntable with the same appliance part number with the damaged one.
Step 7- Reconnect the wires
Using the marks, reconnect the wires and fit out again the screws and the motor housing.
Step 8 - Test it
Return the oven to its upright position, plug it in and test the operation of the motor if it functions properly.
