Over the Range Mircowave

Purchased in 2004, our over the range microwave has been an excellent product until recently.
The settings offered on the control panel have been handy for using the device for cooking, as well as for an exhaust fan on those occasions when we are cooking something steamy or we plain heat something up too much on the stove beneath it. The capability to act as a kitchen timer also comes in very handy.
The surface and the interior are easily cleaned and the tray is easy to remove. The unit was a real bear to mount, but then what over the range microwave would not be?
Recently, however, it ceased to heat, began holding an ozone smell in the cooking area, and generating a very loud hum from the upper right part of the unit. It appears the microwave magnetron has failed and, although the magnetron is still under warranty, it is more sensible to replace the whole unit. We live in a remote area and by the time we got warranty people here (the warranty covers parts, not labor), the cost would almost be as much as for a new microwave.
