The microwave oven is such a defining item of modern culture, similar to the computer and the cell phone that it’s a wonder it hasn’t been made portable till now, but not anymore.
Portable microwave oven are basically just like normal microwave ovens with the one added difference that you can just pick it up and go wherever you want thanks to the fact that they can be plugged into your car battery if you don’t have access to a wall socket.
They have the advantages of being safe to use just like their kitchen countertop counterparts, use electricity very efficiently and since they do not require pre-heating they can be used right off the bat once you switch them on.
Thanks to their inherent design they do not radiate heat or any cooking related smells as opposed to their propane fueled rivals.
Of course the major advantage of portable microwave is right there in their title, they’re portable, and you can hook them up to your car in case you can’t access the main power grid through a socket. This makes them a great addition to any sort of camping trip allowing you to either cook your food beforehand, and just heat it up, or pack microwave-able foods allowing you to pack considerably lighter than if you had to carry all the ingredients with you.
While the disadvantage is its size, but on the other hand everything that’s portable is that way because it is smaller and lighter than their traditional models. Basically as long as your microwave safe bowls can fit inside, you’re golden.
The WaveBox features a reinforced ABS casing and benefits from a heavy-duty luggage handle and of course no-slip rubberized legs in order to ensure that once you set it down somewhere it’s staying there. This portable microwave oven has three power options allowing you to power it from a traditional AC socket and it also comes with extra-long DC cables allowing you to hook it up to a 12 Volt battery or to your in-vehicle power outlet. The unit also comes with several preset cook buttons meant to provide the user with convenience and ease of use.
Then there’s the Hammacher Schlemmer portable microwave unit perfectly suited for heating up meals on the road. It comes with a carry handle and jumper cables just in case you can’t find a wall socket or a DC socket on a RV or boat. It weighs 7.3 kilos and it is just as powerful as most of consumer grade ovens offer, you can use it to heat, reheat, defrost and cook. It also comes with three great preset buttons for pizza, coffee and popcorn, absolutely wonderful.
Another option is the iWavecube, a compact microwave ovens equipped with a flip up handle this time, with a 5.44 kilo weight, this is a unit great for travel; it doesn’t come with the presets that the other portable ovens come with but on the other hand it is smaller than those two are so if space is at a premium then this unit should have your consideration.
