Highlight Features

Samsung Microwave SMH9187 Samsung Microwave SMH9187

  • Capacity:1.8 cubic feet, with 1100 watts of power.

  • Ventilation: 400 CFM ventilation fan, quick and quiet to remove any food odor

  • Sensor cooking

  • chrome racks to allow multiple cooking (2 tier cooking)

Good Points:

The best part about the Samsung Microwave SMH9187 is that it's really easy to operate, with an effortless-to-understand control panel, and a very intuitive system of operation.

And for the most basic cooking tasks, all you really need to do is to set the timer and then press down on the start button, and there you are. You can use the same system for anything from warming a cup of tea to cooking a steak, just change the settings on the timer.

I don't much like the presets here, but when do they ever work well, on any microwave? However, if you'd like to pop some corn, the Samsung Microwave SMH9187's settings pop corn absolutely perfectly.

But really that's only the beginning. You know how important adequate venting is to a range-top microwave. Well, the Samsung SMH9187's fan has vice speeds and works very well – it not only vents well, but also is whisper-quiet – or quieter!

Insulation is great, though no better and no worse than any other microwave. And best of all, there's a ten year – yes, a ten year – guarantee on the magnetron tube, which is absolutely great.

So what is the use of this microwave for? Well, for just about anything – it defrosts, it heats, it cooks meat and vegetables, it even makes hot drinks. You name it, it can do it, and all with a simplicity of operation and robust stability that is absolutely endearing.

Negatives:

After all the good I've said about the Samsung Microwave SMH9187, are there any negatives. Well, one or two.

The light underneath isn't bright enough, in my personal opinion, which can make the range underneath rather difficult to operate.

But I worked around it by installing a wall light that casts enough light for me to get by, and it works perfectly. So there aren't any issue there, and I wouldn't call this a really serious problem.

A slight issue is that there isn't a button or setting to keep food warm once it's done, but then I did say this was a simple and no-frills oven. It just cooks, period, but it does that really well.
