When you’re searching for a microwave, there are so many on the market that you can't really be blamed for being a little confused.
I know I was, when I started searching for a new microwave oven a month or so ago. But, after a lot of careful research I settled on the Sharp R-1405, and for quite a few reasons.
Sharp Microwave R 1405
First of all, I wanted all the functionality of my previous oven (which was also a Sharp) and at a reasonable price.
The Sharp R-1405 certainly fits that bill, and is certainly cheaper than similar ovens that have the same range of features.
But that isn't all – another thing that's very nice about this model from Sharp is how clear cut and easy to understand the installation booklet is, making the actual installation of the oven so simple.
So what are the central plus points of this product? Well, for one thing it's built to last, and to function to your entire satisfaction, with a range of settings that allows you to cook up anything from steak to popcorn. Yes, this oven pops corn perfectly, always an 'iffy' point with so many ovens. It also has wonderful aesthetics, and should give years of trouble free service.
One thing to remember when you install this oven is that it's heavy, and I would really recommend that you have two people around when you install the piece – I did it alone and it wasn't an enjoyable process.
However, the installation manual itself recommends that the oven be installed by two people, so it's I who wasn't following instructions. Get a friend round to give you a hand when you install this oven and you shouldn't have any problems.
A possible negative is that this oven doesn't have the range of features that more expensive models possess.
However, that's not an issue if your own range of uses for it is simple. If you use your oven for anything under gourmet cooking, and for heating and defrosting, then this oven will work just fine.
I also find that though my old oven had a host of features, I never really used most of them. Couple this with the fact that there's less that can go wrong with the Sharp R-1405, and you find that it's really a very good deal.
So what features can you expect with the Sharp R-1405? Quite a lot, really..
All in all, the Sharp R-1405 has three things going for it. Sturdy construction, compact size and, above all, an eminently reasonable price. It also outclasses any other microwave in this category where it really matters, in cooking capacity.
The range of features is perfectly acceptable for average home use, and this oven is recommended as a definite investment in your home.
Pros: Very powerful, solidly built and looks great. Better price then most of the name brand models and better quality than generic ones.
Cons: Exhaust fan is very loud. The unit is very heavy so you need 2 people to do the installation.
Average Amazon Rating: 4.2
